Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation, stated that the government is developing policies to make it easier for foreign visitors to visit Suriname, with the goal of eliminating Suriname visa requirements for visitors from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United States, and Canada.

Suriname plans to eliminate entry visas for Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) members by May 1.

"This means that citizens of those five countries do not need to apply for a Suriname visa," Ramdin explained to reporters. According to Ramdin, the tourist from CARICOM will have to stop at the international airport to pay the entrance fee before entering Suriname. The payment will directly contribute to Suriname’s economy. The payment for the entrance fee is equal to the charges for a visitor visa.

Further, they have decided to discuss the new policy with various stakeholders including airlines and travel agencies in the coming future. As Ramdin promised about the more country that is going to add in the near future but defended the decision to remove the Suriname visa requirement for visitors from those five countries, citing data that shows these countries, particularly the Netherlands and Belgium which attract the majority of foreign visitors to Suriname.

When a Member State receives such an visa application, it must act in accordance with both national and international law. It should be noted, however, that the purpose of the visit is irrelevant in the general application of the right of definite entry, as long as it is not unlawful. A CARICOM national who wishes to stay in another CARICOM country for more than six months or engage in the above activities must do so in accordance with the relevant Community regime or national laws.
